Introduction to MTSS and its Application to Catholic Schools
Meeting the needs of children with learning issues in Catholic school settings has always been a challenge. Response to intervention (RtI-or Multi-tiered Systems of Support MTSS) can serve as a framework to look at the needs of all students, not only those who are "deemed worthy" to receive special education services. RtI/MTSS compels schools to re-examine their educational programs for all students. Outcomes: Participants will:
Engage in a comprehensive overview of RtI/MTSS
Review all three tiers and their components
Connect the proactive approach of MTSS to serving all students
Provide specific examples of implementation at the high school and elementary levels
Identify the roles and relationships of the various stakeholders within the RtI/MTSS model (administrators, classroom teachers, intervention specialists, counselors, parents, etc.)
Articulate root beliefs and how they align with the implementation of RtI/MTSS in Catholic schools
Explore the connection between Catholic Social Teaching, Church documents, the school’s mission/charism, personal beliefs and the RtI/MTSS model
Understand the implications of the law and MTSS implementation
